The Gooners are having a torrid time of it of late. Arsenal scraped a lucky draw with Southampton at the Emirates at the weekend and there were more calls for Emery’s head as a result. With the North London side eight points off a top four place, pressure is mounting on the gaffer.
If Arsenal sack Unai Emery they will be looking to get a replacement in sharpish. One of the favourites to take the job in the capital is Mikel Arteta.
Former Everton hero Arteta is currently assistant manager at Manchester City. The Spaniard took up the role in 2016 and has been working alongside Pep Guardiola ever since.
It is no secret that Mikel Arteta wants to be a manager one day. With a lot of coaching changes predicted to take place in the next few weeks, his is a name likely to be in the gossip columns for the foreseeable future. Everton are another side linked with the coach.
If Mikel Arteta does leave Manchester City to take up a role elsewhere, it would be a massive blow for Pep Guardiola. Any big change to the setup midseason is likely to have an unsettling effect on the coaching and playing staff. With fine margins involved when it comes to the Premier League, City losing their assistant manager halfway through the season could further tip the scales in Liverpool’s favour. We just need Arsenal to sack Unai Emery. Or Everton to sack Marco Silva. Take your pick Mikel.
