This evening sees Liverpool take on Aston Villa in the league cup semi finals. The Reds are fielding a youth side with the senior team on the other side of the world preparing for the Club World Cup semi final with Monterrey. Here is the confirmed Liverpool lineup to take on Aston Villa.
Goalkeeper: Caoimhin Kelleher
Kelleher has been in fine form in the League Cup this season. The young Irishman pulled off some smart stops against MK Dons and was hard done by in the Arsenal game.
Right back: Ki-Jana Hoever
The Dutchman is certain to have a bright future at Anfield. He scored a thunderous header against MK Dons in September.
Centre back: Morgan Boyes
The Welsh youth international will have his hands full tonight with the Reds set to come up against a big, physical Villa front line.
Centre back: Sepp van den Berg
One of the few members of the starting lineup to have made his Liverpool debut, the Dutchman played the full 90 as the Reds beat Arsenal in October.
Left back: Tony Gallacher
The 20-year-old left back steps into the side with Yasser Larouci injured.
Centre midfield: Herbie Kane
One of the more senior youngsters, Kane has been in and around the academy seemingly forever. He is one third of an experienced midfield.
Centre midfield: Pedro Chirivella
The Spaniard is an old man in terms of this squad, at 22-years-old he is yet to have broken into the first team. His passing ability will be crucial to this young side keeping the ball.
Centre midfield: Isaac Christie-Davies
The 22-year-old Chelsea academy graduate is one of the more senior members of the Liverpool lineup this evening.
Right wing: Harvey Elliott
The prodigious winger will be the star of the show tonight. The Premier League’s youngest ever player, his dribbling and vision will be crucial to the Reds’ attacking play.
Left wing: Thomas Hill
We’re just guessing here. Hill is predominantly a midfielder but the Liverpool graphic suggests he will lineup against Aston Villa on the left wing.
Striker: Luis Longstaff
The 18-year-old has been in solid form for the U23 side this season, fingers crossed he grabs another goal this evening. We will need a big display from the young forward line.
