December is a minefield for injuries. Crowded fixture lists, fatigue and adverse conditions conspire each year to strike down footballers throughout the Premier League. It seems that Bournemouth are not immune from the midwinter plague; Eddie Howe has confirmed that Harry Wilson will return to Liverpool for an injury assessment.
The Welsh winger has been in fine form for the Cherries this season. The 22-year-old has netted six goals in 11 starts for the South Coast side and has shown on a few occasions that he still knows his way around a freekick.
Speaking to the Bournemouth Echo, Eddie Howe discussed the player’s fitness:
“Harry’s is a strange one. He suffered a knock on his leg, a dead leg. But it’s swelled up and the swelling keeps returning. We are going to probably get him back to Liverpool this week and hope he can be back very soon. Liverpool will have a look at him early in the week. I just think it’s the right thing to do with him obviously being contracted to Liverpool, just to check he’s okay.”

Whilst it’s not ideal to see a Liverpool player injured, it speaks volumes about our medical team that Bournemouth are sending him back to be assessed.
Whilst now may seem a silly time to say it given our current dearth of centre backs – our physios have shown to be some of the best in the game in recent seasons. For the most part we have avoided long term injuries to our first team players – the amount of football we have seen the first XI play in the last few years is staggering.
Fingers crossed our elite medical staff will get Harry Wilson back to full fitness and he’ll be curling free kicks in for Bournemouth in no time.
