The start of the season saw very few arrivals at Anfield but it did see departures. One major departure was the Harry Wilson loan move to Bournemouth – there was much debate before the start of the season as to whether this was the campaign for the Welshman to step up and stake his claim as a rotation option. Jürgen Klopp has admitted that he would have Harry Wilson at Anfield if he “had another choice”.

This weekend saw the Reds demolish Bournemouth at Dean Court. Liverpool pasted an undoubtedly depleted Cherries side; Steve Cook was absent, Nathan Ake went off injured before half time and impressive winger Harry Wilson was sidelined by the conditions of his loan agreement.

Speaking to The Guardian about the move, Klopp said:

“Of course he can [succeed at Anfield]. That’s why we loaned him, so he can make the steps. It would have been difficult for Harry and I would have loved to have had him here if we had another choice, especially when Shaq [Xherdan Shaqiri] was injured.”

What RTK has to say

The gaffer’s comments  show how highly he thinks of the Welshman. The German would surely have called upon the winger when we were without Xherdan Shaqiri earlier on this season; instead we were forced to run our front three into the ground, occasionally bringing in Divock Origi.

Whether or not Jürgen Klopp gives Harry Wilson his shot next season remains to be seen but he is certainly impressing the gaffer. Jürgen told the paper, “His shooting is world-class. Find me five players who shoot better than him, that is obvious”.

Harry Kane and Tammy Abraham both impressed on loan before tearing it up for their parent clubs. Fingers crossed Harry Wilson is another testament to the benefits of loan moves.
