The January transfer window is fast approaching and Liverpool are in fine form. The Reds are enjoying the fruits of their labour on the training ground, flying high at the top of the Premier League and awaiting their Champions League last 16 fate. Although our depth has fared well so far, we feel that we could still do with another striker. Liverpool should move for Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan.
At the minute we only have two recognised and experienced first team strikers: Bobby Firmino and Divock Origi. Our Brazilian number nine operates as a deep lying forward, linking the midfield and attack. Big Div is more of a traditional number nine, often sat on the shoulder of the last man.
The Reds are lacking a pacy poacher. Martinez can fulfil this role.
The Argentinian forward has 15 goals in 23 games in all competitions this season. The dynamic striker is strong and nimble, quick and agile. He would offer a different option to what we currently have.
Despite being only five foot nine he is able in the air – think a South American Tim Cahill. Another bonus is that his dribbling ability sees him drawing a lot of fouls, given our ability from set pieces this would provide us with an added threat.
Unfortunately, we wouldn’t be the only horse in the race. The Daily Mail have reported that Barcelona are interested in the forward. At just 22-years-old he first our transfer policy but his fee could be a stumbling block – we have tended to avoid astronomical fees in recent years.
If the opportunity arose for Liverpool to sign Lautaro Martinez for the right money then he would be the perfect addition to our attacking options.
