Centre back: Virgil van Dijk – 9
There is no greater centre back in world football, a colossus of the game – he was just always there. Too strong, too fast.
Centre back: Dejan Lovren – 7
Solid as a rock at the back, Dejan kept it tidy and went about his business without fuss but was forced off with injury in the second half. Joe Gomez will be hoping to nail down a starting berth in his absence.
Left back: Andy Robertson – 9
There are no words for this man. His defensive work this evening was phenomenal, his strength and acceleration were called upon regularly and he was never found wanting. Going forward he was dangerous as ever.
Defensive midfield: Jordan Henderson – 7
Another tidy performance in midfield from the skipper
Centre midfield: Naby Keita – 8.5
Magic on the ball, Naby moved it on quickly and opened up gaps by doing so. Always positive, he bagged our first goal of the evening.
Centre midfield: Gini Wijnaldum – 7
On the surface a 7 may appear generous. If you watch the game back, Gini barely put a foot wrong, his ability to retain possession under pressure is remarkable and invaluable in games like this.
Right wing: Mo Salah – 7.5
A really poor miss in the first half is a black spot on the Egyptian’s performance. The second half saw more glaring misses. The second half also saw Salah pull of an outrageous finish for our second goal.
Striker: Bobby Firmino – 6
Bobby was missing again today, maybe he needs to recharge the batteries. He deserves a 6 in our Liverpool player ratings v RB Salzburg.
Left wing: Sadio Mane – 7.5
Ferocious, determined, a nuisance for defenders – Mane showed all of his best traits this evening, his trickery helping him provide the assist for our first goal.
