Tuesday evening sees Liverpool play their last Champions League group stage game of the season, a fixture that will either see the Reds progress to the knockout rounds or drop into the Europa League. With Jürgen Klopp looking to retain the European Cup and make his third successive final, this is a game of tremendous importance. Jordan Henderson has highlighted how RB Salzburg can hurt Liverpool tonight.
The skipper goes into the game in fine form. Hendo picked up an assist at the weekend and was named in Garth Crooks’ BBC Team of the Week. The Liverpool ECHO reported from the captain’s pre-match press conference. When asked what the lads learned from the Reds 4-3 win over the Austrians in October, Henderson told the press:
“They are dangerous. They can hurt on the counter. Good from set-pieces. We have looked back at the Anfield game, and saw things we can improve on. Hopefully we can do that tomorrow night.”
The skipper continued, “We need to defend well. We’ve got great strength in depth. We have made changes and that hasn’t hurt performances. We need everyone and it is going really well. We need to just keep giving everything for the team.”
What RTK has to say
Jordan Henderson is well aware of the ability of RB Salzburg on the break. They are a dynamic and deadly attacking side. They are free scoring but they are leaky in defence.
At Anfield we saw Sadio Mane have Rasmus Kristensen on toast, we will need more of that this evening. We will have to score, that can’t be in doubt. We will have opportunities to score, that can’t be in doubt either.
With the hosts having to grab a goal in order to advance we can expect gaps to open up in their defence, we just need to counter their counter.
