Wednesday night saw Liverpool batter Everton 5-2 in what was a proper Merseyside Derby. There hasn’t been enough blood and thunder in these derbies of late but two Liverpool players made the difference this time around. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson were little snides throughout the Everton game and it was fantastic to see.
If there is one thing to guarantee you the hearts of Liverpool fans, it is passion. If you aren’t performing well but you are still playing your heart out every week, if we can still see that this club means everything to you, then you will always have the respect and adulation of the Kop.
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson showed their passion against Everton. The pair may have been lucky to escape a red card between them but that’s ideal when it comes to the Merseyside Derby.
This is the most ill behaved fixture in English football, boasting the most red cards out of any match in the country. If you want to make it a proper derby, you have to go in hard on your opponent.
Andy Robertson blatantly fell with purposeful clumsiness on top of Tom Davies – I say fell, it was more like a People’s Elbow. Trent left one in late on Luca Digne and landed heavily on Richarlison. It is these little niggles that make the Merseyside Derby what it is – it should be an utterly horrible affair where we all shake hands and have a pint together afterwards.

Alexander-Arnold and Robertson showed against Everton that they understand the club and the fans. It may not have been pretty in a footballing sense but it is what makes the Merseyside Derby what it is – their little snide moves were great to see, it showed their passion.
