Saturday saw Liverpool beat Brighton 2-1 at Anfield. The Reds went 2-0 up in the first half thanks to a brace from Virgil van Dijk, both goals assisted by Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Seagulls got back into the game with 15 minutes to go. Alisson Becker was sent of for handling the ball outside of the area, Lewis Dunk passed the ball into the net from the resulting free kick. Liverpool fans are far from happy with Martin Atkinson for his role in the goal.

Adrian came on to replace Alisson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was sacrificed. As the Spanish deputy organised his wall, standing outside the left post, Atkinson blew his whistle and allowed Lewis Dunk to simply pass the ball into the unguarded left side of the goal.

Why on earth the ref allowed the free kick to be taken when the goal was completely unguarded is beyond us. Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to discuss Martin Atkinson.

Renowned Kop writer Paul Tomkins was incensed with the referee.

This supporter thought it was extremely nefarious of the official.

Whilst on Tweeter pointed out that the villain is the video assistant ref for the derby in midweek.

One fan was wondering why the man is still allowed to officiate matches in the Premier League.

This Kopite wanted to point out that it’s impossible to say that all the decisions go in our favour when we always have to deal with Atkinson.

And of course, celebrations are being planned for when we no longer have to worry about his awful decision making.
