On Saturday afternoon Liverpool looked set for their first clean sheet in 11 games. The Reds were 2-0 up and defending valiantly against a plucky Brighton side. For the first time in a while we had managed to put out the same back five for a few Premier League games in a row and they were finally looking settled and reliable again. With 15 minutes to go this all changed when the keeper was sent off. Alisson Becker will miss the Everton class midweek but it is no disaster.
Thankfully for the Reds there are two convincing reasons that being without Alisson against the Toffees is nothing to worry about: Adrian has proved himself reliable and The Ev are in awful form this season.
On the first day of the Premier League season Alisson picked up a calf injury that saw him drop out of the side until the end of October. Adrian stepped into the side and kept our only clean sheets of the domestic campaign so far.
The summer signing thoroughly impressed the Anfield faithful, many Kopites were overawed by the deputy’s ability to fill Ali’s shoes without a problem. With the Spaniard to be called upon again in midweek, we can rest assured that he is up to the necessary standard.
Before the start of play on Sunday, Everton are one place above the relegation zone – safe by just two points. It is arguably the most dire position that the Toffees have been in in recent memory. Whilst form goes out of the window in these games, we can rest assured that Adrian is good enough for the opposition that he will have to face.
