Liverpool must move Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain back to the centre against Napoli

Liverpool should move Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain back to the centre of midfield against Napoli in the Champions League.

The 26-year-old midfielder played out wide against Crystal Palace this weekend and looked out of sorts.

It’s time to accept the England international is no longer a winger.

Jurgen Klopp should move Oxlade-Chamberlain back to the centre and reap the benefits against Napoli.

Liverpool ground out a 2-1 win at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

Mo Salah was deemed unfit to start and many had expected Divock Origi to come into the side.

However, to everyone’s surprise Oxlade-Chamberlain started the game on the left side of the Reds front three.

The former Arsenal man looked out of sorts before being switched to the right.

His performance improved after being moved to the right, but he still looked far off his best form.

Despite being further forward Oxlade-Chamberlain looked less of a threat.

The Reds midfielder is most effective from a central position. His three goals in two Champions League games from centre midfield is testament to that.

Once Oxlade-Chamberlain is back to his best position we will again see his best form return.

There is no better game than Napoli in the Champions League for the Ox to play in.

The Italian side are currently in disarray. Off the pitch troubles have seriously impacted the clubs on pitch performances. Carlo Ancelotti’s men are on a long run without a win. The Naples side have drawn five and lost one of their last six games.

Liverpool must capitalise on this poor form by taking the game to Napoli at Anfield. The Reds best chance of doing just that is by playing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in his preferred centre midfield position.
