Kopites already have a soft spot for their emerging 18-year-old defender. Williams made his first team debut at the end of October. The right back played the full 90 minutes as the Reds progressed on penalties after a thrilling 5-5 draw with Arsenal. The Welshman came in for special praise as he dug out the vital cross for Divock Origi’s injury time equaliser.

Neco Williams took centre stage for Wales U19s during the international break. His side faced Russia U19s in Euro U19s qualifying. Williams converted two spot kicks to secure a 2-2 for the Young Dragons.

What RTK has to say

It is incredibly encouraging to see Neco Williams on penalty duty for Wales, it is even more encouraging to see him convert both of his spot kicks.

Two vital traits needed to make it in football is character and technique – scoring penalties requires both of these in abundance. We may have struck gold with the defender as he is showing no sign of slowing down in his development.

Williams has already demonstrated his ability to the Anfield crowd and his international form shows that he is already building on his impressive start.

If Jürgen Klopp ever decides to move Trent Alexander-Arnold into centre midfield, he will need a solid right back to fill the Scouser’s shoes. If Neco Williams maintains his superlative form for club and country then he may find himself knocking on the door of the first team sooner rather than later.
