Back in September we rounded up the five must undroppable players in the Reds side. Two months later it is time to reassess, here are the five most important Liverpool players right now:
5: Andy Robertson
It has become telling that our two full backs are as essential to our side as the front three. Robbo and Trent have more assists between them since the start of the 2018/19 season than Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Ousmane Dembele. His cross for Mo Salah against Manchester City was otherworldly.
4: Trent Alexander-Arnold
The Scouser in our team has been in unbelievable form of late. Trent has revolutionised the full back role with his passing range and creative flair. He has drawn comparisons with Kevin De Bruyne in recent weeks and it is only a matter of time before he steps into midfield.
3: Sadio Mane
He just gets better and better. The Senegalese winger has carried his side at times this season. His lightning pace, determination and finishing ability have made him impossible for opposition defences to handle. We just don’t look as threatening when he is out of the side.
2: Fabinho
The best defensive midfielder Anfield has seen in years. The Brazilian combines the defensive awareness of Javier Mascherano with the passing range of Xabi Alonso. He has asserted himself as the best in the world in his position; we just don’t look the same without him.
1: Virgil van Dijk
The Dutchman is our cornerstone, our foundation. Without the towering defender we are nowhere near as assured at the back. Just look at the Arsenal game: we conceded five that night. He has been immense in important games recently. Thanks to Van Dijk, Sergio Aguero is still without an Anfield goal.
