Liverpool should drop Gini Wijnaldum against Manchester City this weekend.

The Reds midfielder played well and scored as Liverpool beat Genk 2-1 at Anfield. However, his form has seriously dipped of late.

The Dutch central midfielder has been a passenger in big games against Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. And we simply cannot afford that against City.

Wijnaldum enjoyed a productive time away from Merseyside with the Dutch national side. He helped the Netherlands pick up two big wins by scoring two big goals.

Since returning from international duty he has looked out of sorts for Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp has persisted with Wijnaldum despite this but now is the time to take him out.

Liverpool have better alternatives in midfield ready and raring to go against City.

Fabinho was expertly left out by the Liverpool boss against Aston Villa last weekend. The Brazilian risked a ban had he received a yellow card in that game. He is the first name on the team sheet and is instrumental in the heart of Liverpool’s midfield.

The Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is a big game player and must start on Sunday. He will lead, work his socks off and never shy away from the ball. We need players like him against Manchester City.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been in excellent form and has earned a start in the Premier League. He has proved himself a serious goal threat from midfield and has a history of scoring against this weekend’s opponents.

Liverpool should drop Wijnaldum despite a good performance in the mid-week.

The Reds best chance of winning against City is by playing a midfield three that doesn’t include the Dutchman.
