In recent months Liverpool have been linked with a bid for Kai Havertz, with Bild one of a number of outlets reporting the Reds interest. With every one of Europe’s top clubs having been linked with the German at one time or another, he is nailed on for a move in the next year. The latest twist to the tale has arrived as Havertz has admitted he wouldn’t be opposed to leaving the Bundesliga.
Speaking with Marca ahead of Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-1 victory over Atletico Madrid, the Golden Boy nominee was asked whether he’d be open to leaving Germany. Havertz responded, “I think I’ve picked up enough international experience at Leverkusen, I know the rhythm of these international matches and I’m confident that I can go abroad at any moment and play at clubs outside of Germany.”
The 20-year-old midfielder was wary of issuing a ‘come and get me plea’ to European sides and added, “for the moment, I want to have a good season. Afterwards, we’ll see.”
In the 2018/19 season Havertz netted 17 goals in 33 games, an incredible tally considering he only turned 20 over the summer.
What RTK has to say
A Liverpool bid for Kai Havertz would be a massive statement of intent. He is sure to be one of the leading lights of the next generation.
The German youngster is precisely the type of player that the Reds need in midfield. He has incredible vision, versatility and an eye for goal.
One thing that Liverpool have going for them in race for Havertz is Jürgen Klopp. The Reds boss is a venerated figure in German football, any young player from the country would relish the opportunity to work with our gaffer – he is sure to go down as a legend of German coaching.
The fact that Havertz has said that he is open to leaving the Bundesliga is incredibly encouraging given that Bayern Munich are nailed on favourites for his signature. He is young, talented and German – he is certain to have Bayern knocking on his door. Fingers crossed Jürgen will do enough to persuade him that Anfield is the place to be.
