Sunday sees the biggest game of the Premier League season so far. Liverpool will welcome Man City to Anfield in what is sure to be a title defining fixture. The Reds are six points clear of the reigning champions going into the game, a win would give Jürgen Klopp a great amount of breathing room heading into a hectic winter schedule. We take a look at three things that will definitely happen as Liverpool play Man City.
A raucous welcome
One of the most famous incidents between Liverpool and Man City was the team bus welcoming ahead of the Champions League fixture between the two sides in 2018. Kopites lined the streets to create an intimidating gauntlet for the City coach. Flares were set off, plastic thrown, windows smashed. The City players conceded three goals in the first half as the Reds ran riot, Liverpool fans are sure to cook up another daunting scene for the champions.
Shouting down Sterling
Raheem Sterling left Liverpool in a shroud of controversy. The player’s agent brought emotions to a boiling point with his comments insisting that Sterling wouldn’t stay at Anfield under any circumstances. Ever since, the winger has been booed and hissed at whenever he has returned to Merseyside. With the 24-year-old in the form of his life, Kopites will be looking to make themselves heard in a bid to distract him from the game.
Liverpool will look to start quickly on Sunday. The Reds will swarm the City players in order to not let them settle into the game, whilst also attacking direct and with purpose. When Jürgen Klopp’s side knocked the Citizens out of the Champions League, they blitzed them in the first half. Fingers crossed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain gets the nod, he only scores worldies and he has experience of blasting them in against Man City.
