It is a game sure to determine the destination of the Premier League. Sunday sees Liverpool take on Man City at Anfield. The game can take the Reds nine points clear of their title rivals, or half their lead to just three points. It is a monumental occasion, tensions are high and so are expectations. We take a look at three Man City players Liverpool will have to stop at the weekend:
The villain of the fixture; Raheem Sterling moved to Man City from Liverpool in a £49m deal back in 2015. The manner of his departure left a sour taste on Merseyside, as a result he has been booed and hissed every time he has visited Anfield since. The England winger is in the form of his life this season, scoring and assisting in nearly every game he’s played.
The ex-Reds forward usually struggles to cope with the pressure when he returns to Liverpool, Jürgen Klopp’s side will have to add to that pressure on Sunday – keeping him quiet will be vital.
Kevin De Bruyne
One of the best playmakers the Premier League has ever seen. He is like watching Trent Alexander-Arnold in centre midfield. The Belgian maestro is key to everything Man City do offensively, he pulls the strings and has a penchant for picking out passes that are simply not there.
Fabinho will have to keep a keen eye on De Bruyne throughout the game, it will have to be one of the Brazilian’s best games in a Liverpool shirt.
The Argentinian is in the top echelon of strikers in the world. Virgil van Dijk will have his hands full trying to keep him contained. Aguero has incredible attacking intelligence, his positioning and his timing of runs are sublime – it will take a fully concentrated defence to keep him out. Fingers crossed Dejan Lovren doesn’t switch off.
