This season the Reds have struggled to consistently keep clean sheets. Liverpool have managed to shut out the opposition on just two occasions so far in the Premier League. Thankfully, Jürgen Klopp isn’t too concerned about Liverpool’s clean sheet problem.

At the weekend Liverpool went 1-0 down after just 21 minutes and didn’t turn the game around until the 87th minute. In recent weeks the Reds have conceded five to Arsenal and three against Red Bull Salzburg.
Speaking at the Reds pre-Genk press conference – broadcast on the club’s YouTube channel – Jürgen Klopp was asked about the side’s leaky defence. The gaffer told the media, “You can concede goals like this. No problem, We carried on and then we got the win. A lot of things worked out well last season. Only 11 games now, we try to improve. Main target isn’t clean sheets. We want them but we have to win.”
What RTK has to say
It is reassuring and characteristic of the gaffer to not take any notice of clean sheets whilst the Reds are winning. Liverpool are yet to be defeated in the Premier League this season and have only been beaten by Napoli in all competitions.
Whilst we are winning, clean sheets are positive but unimportant. Klopp never takes notice of records, personal awards or accolades. The German has always asserted that the side just takes each game as it comes, ignoring the external fervour and pressure piled on by the media and history in equal measure.
We will have to plug up the defence in the near future and this is sure to happen as Alisson settles back into the side following a couple of months out with a calf problem. There is no cause for concern so it is good to see that Jürgen Klopp is not bothering himself with inconsequential clean sheet stats.
