Wednesday night saw an Anfield clash for the ages. Arsenal were the visitors in the League Cup fourth round as the Reds ran out winners on penalties after a 5-5 thriller in normal time. The Gooners twice led by two goals but were ultimately pegged back by a defiant and youthful Reds side. After the game, Arsenal goalscorer Lucas Torreira posted a celebration tweet and he has been promptly rinsed for it.

It was Torreira that scored the visitor’s first goal just before the 20 minute mark, this brought the scores level after an early own goal from Shkodran Mustafi. The Uruguayan was lucky that VAR is not in place for EFL Cup ties as replays showed that he was offside.
The game was an absolute classic. Liverpool’s youth refused to be beaten by Arsenal’s substitutes. Unai Emery fielded an Arsenal side full of experience, including two world cup winners in Mustafi and Mesut Ozil. The Reds had a 16 year old up top all game. After the match the Torreira celebration tweet came in for a lot of stick.

One supporter joked that the Uruguayan must have thought the away goal rule was in play.
Man thinks the away goals rule applies

Another Red asked who is going to break the bad news.
Who’s gonna tell him?!

This fan thought it was a reflection of just how dire things have gotten at the Emirates.
Things are so bad at Arsenal players are pretending to win games they haven’t.

Of course, somebody had to tell him his goal shouldn’t have stood.
Btw u were offside xx

It could be bad news for Emery if this is the players’ mentality.
Celebrating our loss mate, Emery one step closer to getting sacked 😂

One fan had to make sure he knew the rules.
There isn’t a second leg mate, you’re dusted
