Philippe Coutinho is still one of the most talented attacking midfielders in the world. Things didn’t click for him at Barcelona for whatever reason, sometimes they just don’t. Since moving to Bayern Munich on loan this season, the little magician has begun showing just why the Catalan giants splashed £142m on signing the midfielder from the Reds. Liverpool should battle Bayern to sign Philippe Coutinho in the summer.
It was a heartbreaking moment for Kopites when we lost little Phil. The Brazilian forced a move to Barcelona in January 2018 and the manner of the departure left a bitter taste in Scousers’ mouths. Perhaps to bitter for the club to reconsider the playmaker, however, we should swallow our pride.
Things never worked out for Coutinho at the Camp Nou. He was swiftly moved on to Bayern Munich on loan with an option for the Bavarian club to buy him, Jürgen Klopp sent him a text wishing him well and the playmaker subsequently referred to his ex-boss as “one of the best in the world”. Since the start of the season he has been edging towards his old form. He scored and assisted against FC Koln and Paderborn and laid on goals against Tottenham and Augsburg. He has looked bright and creative and has been showing bursts of the flair that made him one of Europe’s most sought after midfielders whilst he was at Anfield.
At the minute, the Liverpool midfield looks impotent. There is a dearth of creativity in the middle as we have never truly replaced the genius that the Brazilian provided when we needed it. With the club currently on the verge of dynasty, Liverpool should sign Coutinho to tip us over the edge into our glory years. He is currently valued at £81m by Transfermarkt, who knows what cut price deal Michael Edwards could negotiate?
