Liverpool fans are divided over Philippe Coutinho. Some see him as disloyal, a man that made a mockery of the club as he forced his move to Barcelona. Others are thankful for Phil’s departure as it freed up finances that led to Liverpool signing Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker and Fabinho – all players that were critical to the Reds winning a 6th European Cup. Coutinho is now plying his trade at Bayern Munich following an unsuccessful stint at Barcelona. According to a report in the Liverpool ECHO, Philippe Coutinho could be key to the Reds bringing in one of Bayern’s crown jewels. With these links in mind, we ask: should Liverpool sign Thomas Muller?

Muller will go down as a Bayern and Germany legend. He is one of those remarkable footballers that sometimes when you watch him you think “I could have made it”. The 6ft 1in German is one of the most intelligent forwards of the last decade, he wasn’t blessed with blistering pace or dribbling ability – he was born with an instinct for where to be and a third eye for defence splitting passes. Thomas Muller is as close to Roberto Firmino as you can get without some teeth whitening.

Coutinho has forced Muller onto the bench for their last 5 games for Bayern. The German international is growing unsettled in Bavaria and according to a report by the Liverpool ECHO, the competition for places could have sharks circling the Allianz Arena.

Should Liverpool sign Thomas Muller? If given the chance, most certainly. However, he does not fit into the Reds current transfer policy. Ragnar Klavan is the only player over 30 to join Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp’s reign. Whilst Muller would be a fantastic addition to the squad, he is little more than a pipedream.
