When Mo Salah plays well, Liverpool play well. In fact, I can’t think of many – if any – games when Salah has had a good game and the Reds have failed to win. The Egyptian King has set some astronomical standards for himself in recent years, standards that he has failed to consistently hit this season. Thankfully for Kopites, Mo Salah is back at his best ahead of Liverpool’s game with Spurs at the weekend.
Salah played through the his worst spell in a Liverpool shirt this season. The winger put in some torrid back to back displays against Napoli, Chelsea and Sheffield United. However, he has shown glimpses of brilliance throughout the season, stepping up at the right moments in games where he hasn’t been at his best – for example nicking two goals against Red Bull Salzburg despite offering little else throughout the game.
The Premier League record breaking forward had an inconsistent start to Liverpool’s game against Genk but he didn’t half turn it on near the end of the game. Liverpool scored their third when Roberto Firmino slid a clever reverse pass into Salah, the Egyptian quickly swiveled and knocked a perfectly weighted ball through to Sadio Mane, the Senegalese winger promptly lifted the ball over the keeper.
With minutes to go, the ball was fizzed into Mo’s feet, he rolled a defender twice his size and stepped passed another blue shirt before poking the ball past the helpless Genk goalkeeper. In both goals he showed the lethal instinct that has made him impossible to defend against in recent seasons. With the Reds dropping their first points of the Premier League season last Sunday, it’s the perfect time for him to be hitting these heights again. Kopites can rest assured, Mo Salah is back to his best in time for the Spurs game.
