Sunday saw a robbery take place at Old Trafford. Liverpool arrived as comfortable favourites to take home the three points, however, their plans were interrupted when Marcus Rashford put the hosts ahead after 36 minutes. Divock Origi was hacked to the ground by Victor Lindelof just moments before the goal, a blatant foul which Martin Atkinson ignored. A VAR review failed to overturn the decision as apparently not blowing up when a player is kicked in the calf isn’t a clear and obvious error. Atkinson proceeded to make a number of errors throughout the game. The reaction to the Liverpool draw with Man United has shown just how good Jürgen Klopp is.
Liverpool fans were gutted at the final whistle yesterday. The Reds had won 17 games on the bounce and were set to equal Manchester City’s all time consecutive win record with victory over their old rivals, Manchester United. However, a string of refereeing errors robbed the Reds of that chance. Man United players and fans were over the moon with a point, despite leading until the 84th minute. Harry Maguire even tweeted a celebration. The fact that Reds fans are so heartbroken for Liverpool to draw with Man United just highlights how good of a job Jürgen Klopp has done at Anfield.
During the Sir Alex Ferguson years, Man United were untouchable for Liverpool. The noisy neighbours from up the canal gradually chipped away at our record number of top flight titles, eventually overtaking us as they won their 20th championship. Since Jürgen Klopp’s arrival on Merseyside, he has transformed the Reds into the greatest team in Europe and, if everything goes to plan in December, the world. In my lifetime Kopites have never been so disappointed to draw at Old Trafford. Klopp has done a titanic job and has spoiled us rotten, we are still unbeaten, still top of the league by 6 points – enjoy it – this is our year.
