Despite being known as one of the funniest and biggest characters in the dressing room, Liverpool’s versatile workhorse has become known as “Boring James Milner“, with a parody Twitter account dedicated solely to his soporific persona. The tag of ‘boring’ is likely down to the ex-England international’s professionalism. On the pitch and in the public eye, Milner is a football manager’s dream. He never complains, is never caught out doing anything he shouldn’t and he has taken great care of his body over the years. Emile Heskey has praised James Milner for his professional attitude.

Heskey is a defining part of Liverpool’s early 2000s era, he arrived from Leicester City in March 2000 for a club record £11m. He won an FA Cup, 2 League Cups and the UEFA Cup during his time with the Reds. He was sold to Birmingham City in 2004 for an initial £3.5m. Between 2009-12, Heskey played for Aston Villa. The striker’s time at the Villains coincided with James Milner’s stint at the midlands side.
Milly has seemingly been around forever, he started his career at Leeds before spending time at Swindon Town, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Manchester City. Whilst at Villa, Heskey noticed the player’s professionalism, the former striker told Liverpool’s official site: “You him training [on penalties] during training and after training. That sums up James Milner.”
The ex-Reds striker continued, “He was huge. He shows what you can do if you apply yourself and look after your body”. Milner has been crucial to Liverpool in recent years. The 33 year old has played in most positions for the Reds during his time at Anfield and his attitude has helped him in that endeavour, Heskey commented that “nothing fazes him”.
Liverpool are flying high in the table, with Milly to thank due to his excellent last minute penalty against Leicester City, so it is no wonder that Emile Heskey has praised James Milner for his professionalism. Without an experienced and versatile player like him, the Reds wouldn’t be so sure of themselves, we should thank our lucky stars we’ve got him.
