A club the size of Liverpool are constantly linked with the brightest talents in the game. In the last week Football Insider reported that the Reds are chasing Brighton and Hove Albion defender Ben White – the 21 year old is currently on loan at Leeds United. Former Premier League striker Noel Whelan has told Football Insider that the Liverpool target is perfect for the Reds. Should Liverpool sign Ben White?

Marcelo Bielsa is the ideal manager for Ben White to play under at the minute if he is to move to Liverpool in the near future. Bielsa is known for his reliance on ball playing defenders and intense pressing, much like Jürgen Klopp. Playing in this Leeds United system is a good indicator for Reds scouts as to whether or not he would fit in at Anfield, so far he seems to be passing the test with flying colours.
Noel Whelan told Football Insider, “He makes good decisions defensively, he is quick, very capable on the ball. He fits the Liverpool style perfectly as he can play from the back and bring the ball out”. Whelan’s endorsement of the youngster reads like a description of Virgil van Dijk which is more than encouraging.
The former Leeds United striker continued, “He’s destined for a top-four club, he’s that good”. This is high praise indeed, the step up from the Championship to the Premier League is an incredibly big one. The gulf in class between the two divisions can prove too much for some, with the top league proving much more technical and demanding.
Given this endorsement, should Liverpool look to sign Ben White? It would be an interesting move given the fact that the Reds already boast two terrific young centre backs in Sepp van den Berg and Joe Gomez. Would this transfer be Jürgen Klopp hedging his bets given Joe Gomez’ fitness issues?
