This weekend Liverpool visit Lancashire to take on Manchester United at Old Trafford. The two sides have a fierce rivalry that goes a lot deeper than football. This Sunday is the first time this millennium that Liverpool arrive at Old Trafford as strong favourites. Manchester United will be hoping that they can turn their dismal form around with the return of a string of first team players. This week saw a positive Paul Pogba injury update that will delight both Man United fans and Jürgen Klopp.
The Mirror reported that “Paul Pogba, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw are all set to return for the Old Trafford clash”. The French international has missed 5 of United’s last 7 games due to an ankle injury.
Paul Pogba is without a doubt the Red Devils’ best player. It may seem counterintuitive to say that Pogba’s return is good news for Liverpool. However, United suffer from the same problem that the Reds did when Philippe Coutinho was in the side. When Pogba plays, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side tend to over rely on him – every ball goes through him. With the Frenchman out of the side, United are less predictable in their approach play.
Liverpool currently boast the best defensive midfielder in the world in Fabinho as well as two of the most tenacious ball winners in the division in Gini Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson. If Pogba plays, the Liverpool midfield will be able to subdue United’s creative output as Gini, Hendo and Fabinho swarm around the Frenchman whenever he gets on the ball.
The positive Paul Pogba injury update is great news for Liverpool, better the (red) devil you know.
