He is the best goalkeeper in the world, without a doubt. He recently scooped the best goalkeeper in the world gong at the FIFA Best Football Awards, he was also named in the World XI that night, hot on the heels of lifting the UEFA goalkeeper of the year award. He is, of course, Alisson Becker. Liverpool’s shot stopper supreme. Sadly for Reds everywhere, the brilliant Brazilian has been injured since pulling up lame with a calf problem on the Premier League’s opening game with Norwich. Jürgen Klopp has provided a very exciting Alisson injury update which is sure to delight Kopites the world over.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference (available on the club’s official site) ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Sheffield United on Saturday, the German gaffer was asked about the progress of the Reds’ keeper. Klopp told the gathered media, “Alisson looks like he can train with the team from Sunday.”
This is an enormous boost for Liverpool and their fans. Adrian has been deputising for the world’s best during his absence and he has done a terrific job, earning two mentions in Garth Crooks’ team of the week – however, the Reds will be excited to have the inimitable distribution ability of Alisson Becker back between the sticks. Liverpool have been winning and Adrian has pulled off some great saves but the Reds have struggled for clean sheets, Alisson managed to keep the opposition out on 21 occasions in the Premier League last campaign.
With Ali back in training on Sunday we can hope he will be fit to start within the next fortnight. With this Alisson injury update, the Reds just got a bit more unstoppable.
