Just last week he was the senior player tasked with seeing a young Reds team through a tricky trip to MK Dons. In last night’s game, Milner was brought on in place of Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson.
The emergence of Milner steadied the ship; a leaky Liverpool defence suddenly looked more stable with the calming influence of the Reds midfielder sitting in front of them.
After that Liverpool were able to push on and grab another goal and all three points.
Milner plays a pivotal role in this Liverpool side. He may not be fast, gifted or exciting but he is a true leader on the pitch.
The 33-year-old has been underrated throughout his career and continues to be so by some Liverpool fans.
Klopp is one man who certainly doesn’t underestimate Milner and we should be grateful for that.
