The Reds are set to journey to Bramall Lane for their 7th Premier League win of the season against Sheffield United. Liverpool go into the game on the back of 15 consecutive victories, the hosts lie dead on midtable, 12 points behind their guests. The European champions are widely expected to come through the game with the Premier League new boys unscathed. Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has given his thoughts on the weekend’s fixture.
In his BBC predictions, the former Reds defender said, “The Blades got a great win over Everton at Goodison Park last time out, but it is asking a lot for them to beat Liverpool too”. The weekend’s hosts earned an impressive 3 points at Everton last weekend, however, the Toffees are increasingly looking like a club in crisis. The Blades soaked up considerable pressure in the game and took their chances when they came. This is definitely something the Reds will have to be wary of.
Lawro continued, “I don’t really see [Sheffield United] causing the Reds many problems – apart from at set-pieces”. This is an area of contention, Liverpool have improved significantly in their defence from set plays since the arrival of Virgil van Dijk but with the hosts being recently promoted they are a much more physical side that could provide a threat from corners that we haven’t faced a lot recently.
Alan Hansen’s old partner concluded, “Liverpool are on a roll at the moment, and they just keep on winning”. With the Anfield side in such unstoppable form, it is unlikely that the South Yorkshire team will be the ones to stop this train. My money is on a comfortable win.
