Liverpool have the best fans in English football. The Anfield faithful is both feared and revered, they have been the 12th man on important occasions, most recently drawing praise for their part in the 4-0 demolition of Barcelona. Kopites have garnered a reputation for their ferocity, passion and ingenuity when it comes to writing new songs for the terraces. However, Liverpool fans need to address one key issue we have of a matchday.

Ask your Ma and Da, things were slower back then. Everything from the pace of life to the pace of football songs. Your parents will likely tell you that Poor Scouser Tommy was sung much much slower back in Liverpool’s glory days. For some reason, the chant has been sped up over the years, how this has happened is anybody’s guess. Arguably one of Liverpool’s biggest anthems, Poor Scouser Tommy outlines the story of a young boy that was sent far away from his home to fight for his king and his country. However, many believe we’ve began singing it too fast.

It is not the only song that we’ve started racing through. Liverpool adapted Si Señor from South America, singing it for our magical striker Bobby Firmino. In comparison to our South American inspirations, Reds fans sing the song far too quickly. Have a look at San Lorenzo’s version.

I implore my fellow Reds. Let’s slow things down, these anthems are out hymns, remember the old saying – Anfield is our church.
