Liverpool will pay a visit to Sheffield United at Bramall Lane this weekend. The league leaders will be coming up against the Premier League new boys with the sides separated by 12 points. The European champions are odds on favourites to continue their 15 game winning streak in the division and the Blades are wary as a result. Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has said his side may have to resort to extreme measures.
During his press conference, reported by Sky Sports Football, the South Yorkshire side’s gaffer said “it might not turn into a back 3, it might turn into a 10, or 11”. It would be a sensible approach for the Blades to take as Liverpool are prone to opening up sides that try and play an expansive game against them. The first victims of such naivety this season were Norwich. The Canaries arrived at Liverpool trying to play an open game and found themselves 4-0 down at half time.
The home team’s manager continued, “they’ve caused better sides than us untold problems in terms of how they move the ball around the pitch and the way they attack with pace and quality”. The devastating form of Liverpool’s front 3 has clearly gotten Wilder worried ahead of Saturday’s game. With the entire trio looking readily available for the weekend, the newly promoted side seem set for no reprieve from the wrath of a fighting fit Roberto Firmino, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane combination.
In the past, a back 10 would have been a problem for Liverpool. We would to struggle against teams that would sit deep as we didn’t have other options of attack. However, the Reds now boast the two best attacking full backs in the world and Bobby Firmino is consistently pulling tricks out to unlock defences, let’s hope this continues into the weekend.
