There could be so many Liverpool players that could have been Man of the Match after that performance. Our squad did really well to pull three points out of the bag.
Who Jamie Carragher chose wasn’t really a surprise, particularly with the great form he’s been in- Joel Matip.
According to Sky Sports, Matip was shown to have the best statistics. He had a total of 98 touches of the ball, which was more than any other player on the pitch; won 6/10 duels and completed 82/90 passes.

Not only that, but he also made 9 clearances and a couple of interceptions that helped to stop the Chelsea attackers in their tracks. Absolutely amazing from the Liverpool centre-back.
Why Joel Matip is a Liverpool bargain?

There’s no doubt about it- Joel Matip is an absolute bargain.
We were really fortunate that we got a centre-back of his quality on a free, whereas Everton, Man City and Man United have had to open up their wallets. Where pundits rave about the Maguire being worth his £80m price tag or even van Dijk’s own £75m, Matip has shown he can be valued just as much.
For instance, Matip has roughly the same amount of headed clearances as Maguire (17 to his 18), but more than van Dijk. The Cameroon international has also matched the Man United in the number of aerial battles won (28). Doesn’t hurt our attack either that his headers can provide us with goals too.
Liverpool should get started on that contract extension because it would be an absolute shame if we decided to let him go. I don’t know what it is, but Matip has become Liverpool’s most improved player; his defensive partnership with van Dijk is without a doubt the best in the Premier League right now.
Klopp needs to utilise him properly if we want to be Premier League champions.
