Liverpool must win the league for the sake of football. This weekend saw Liverpool extend their Premier League winning streak to 15 consecutive victories, Man City demolished Watford 8-0. The City scoreline was distasteful to say the least. The aggregate score between the Blues and the Hornets is now 35-3 over their last 8 games. This is not what top flight football should be like. Before people begin coming for us saying we aren’t the good guys and we have also spent heaps of money – please think twice. Liverpool have one of the smallest net spends in the Prem during Jürgen Klopp‘s reign. No matter which way you spin it, the Reds have spent less than most sides in the division in the last 4 years. If Liverpool win the league they will be doing it the right way and that is just what English football needs now.

Nobody wants to see a team spend way beyond their means and go on to beat other sides 8-0, 6-0 etc every week. It is not good for the sport. These score lines are being achieved whilst the club are investigated by footballing authorities over irregularities with their spending. If City win a third consecutive title, registering scores of 8-0 on the way, it would be a damning indictment of how lost football has become.
Last season it was the Citizens financial muscle that saw them beat Liverpool to the league by just 1 point. The Blues have 2 world class players in every single position. Nobody else has depth like that. Over 38 games, Liverpool couldn’t keep pace because they don’t break FFP regulations to sign bench players. If we want the game to retain some sort of integrity then Liverpool must win the league ahead of the tasteless Man City.
