Liverpool fans would have had their heart in their mouth when Alisson Becker limped off the pitch during the Reds opening game against Norwich. Newbie Adrian was thrust in goal for his first Premier League appearance for Liverpool. Nobody anticipated the Spaniard getting a game in the league, Alisson played all 38 of the Reds’ games in the competition last time out. However, serendipity granted the ex Hammers keeper his chance and he has taken it with aplomb.

Adrian has played in every Premier League game for the Reds this season and is currently tied with Kasper Schmeichel for goals conceded at this point in the season, having both only let in 5 goals. He has also won Liverpool a penalty shootout, delivering the Super Cup in the process. The Spaniard has asserted himself as the best backup goalkeeper in the division.

The deputy shot stopper has been in incredibly form of late. He has made it into the BBC team of the week again thanks to his performance against Chelsea. Adrian pulled off some important saves, perhaps most importantly denying Tammy Abraham in the first half when the in form striker was speeding towards goal. His distribution was excellent and he was commanding in the air, coming out to catch crosses and knock the wind out of Chelsea sails in the process.

As it stands, Liverpool aren’t missing Alisson Becker. The Reds are not missing the best goalkeeper in Europe. That is bonkers. Any time would be feeling his absence, however, we have still won every game this season and with Adrian in goal we don’t look like losing any time soon.
