Rumours had swirled around for a while that Liverpool were chasing Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi. A report from German publication Bild suggested the Reds were in talks with the Stamford Bridge side in January as they looked to secure a move for the highly rated youngster. The electric winger has been in a protracted contract stand off with the Blues, his deal was set to expire at the end of this season. However, Chelsea announced the contract extension of Hudson-Odoi last night. The England international has signed a 5 year deal with the club. The BBC have reported the agreement to be worth £120k a week. This is what we call ‘crazy money’.
The Reds will be bitterly disappointed to have missed out on the opportunity to nick the future great on a free transfer at the end of the season but given his reported wages they may be relieved.
Jürgen Klopp is in dire need of depth in his attack. Liverpool have been extremely fortunate with offensive injuries in the last couple of seasons, the German manager’s first choice trio have been available for nearly every important game the Reds have had. However, one thing that set Liverpool and Man City apart last year was the strength in depth. When things aren’t going to plan or players are growing fatigued, Klopp doesn’t have the same world class quality on his bench as Pep Guardiola. This is something that the gaffer will have to address in the near future. Hudson-Odoi could have been the perfect back up. Fingers crossed we will do our utmost to bring Jadon Sancho in next summer.
