We get it, he’s got a big fat head. He also has a worrying statistic in his locker that will shock and worry the Anfield faithful ahead of Liverpool v Newcastle. Steve Bruce took over at St. James Park this summer after Mike Ashley failed to keep Rafael Benitez on Tyneside.

The decision was rightly met with much derision and apathy from Magpies fans. They went from former Champions League winning coach Rafa Benitez to ex-Sunderland and then current Sheffield Wednesday gaffer Steve Bruce. It was not the most inspiring of managerial merry-go-rounds.

The local man has had an okay start at Newcastle. An expected defeat to Arsenal was followed by a disappointing loss away to an exuberant Norwich. However, Bruce was given a boost by an impressive win away at Spurs before a drab draw at home with Watford. The recently appointed head coach is to take his side to Anfield tomorrow, a game that they are roundly expected to lose and lose badly. Though Steve Bruce has one bizarre statistic in his favour.

Despite a woeful managerial record against the top six, including no wins in 22 matches against Manchester United, he has an impressive record against Liverpool.

In his last 17 games against the Reds, he has lost just 4, picking up 8 draws along the way. To add more strangeness, six of these eight draws have been at Anfield.

The fact that the former Manchester United defender has a knack for snatching a point against Liverpool is worrying to say the least. However, Bruce spent last season managing in the Championship – he hasn’t yet come up against this Liverpool side; the best team we have had in years.

Fingers crossed, we put a massive, humiliating dent in his impressive record.
