Mark Lawrenson has had his say on the forthcoming Liverpool v Newcastle game. The former Liverpool defender believes the Reds are set to give Steve Bruce’s side a hiding at Anfield on Saturday.
The Magpies arrive at Anfield with just one win from their opening four games; a record that features a disappointing defeat away to Premier League new boys Norwich and an impotent home draw against Watford.
However, they do boast an away win at Tottenham which will be enough to keep Liverpool on their toes.
Lawrenson is a respected voice around Anfield. The legendary defender formed a partnership for the ages alongside Alan Hansen, picking up 5 league titles and a European Cup during his seven seasons with the Reds. He later went on to partner Hansen again, with the duo proving to be as formidable in front of the cameras as they were on the pitch.
Lawro gave his weekend predictions to the BBC and he believes that Liverpool will have no problem brushing the Magpies aside, continuing their 100% record in the Premier League as a result. In his BBC column he said “[Newcastle will] try to stifle Liverpool, but I don’t see it working this time.”
The difference between Liverpool and Spurs is that we don’t just boast world class forwards, we also have the game’s greatest attacking full backs at our disposal. This added attacking threat has been picked up by Lawrenson as he feels Liverpool “have got more ways of scoring than most other teams that Newcastle will face”.
The Anfield icon sees Liverpool winning the game 3-0.
