It was a relatively uneventful summer for Liverpool. The most crucial signing so far has proved to be Adrian, as the Spaniard has been thrust into the Liverpool lineup on a regular basis due to an unfortunate injury to Brazilian Alisson Becker.
Despite a few nervy moments at the start of his Anfield career, Adrian has been incredibly impressive with his recent performances. And his progress hasn’t gone unnoticed at Melwood.
Liverpool’s goalkeeping John Achterberg took the time to tell the Liverpool FC site in an article published on the 11th of September, just how pleased the staff have been with the Spaniard’s development. The coach said, “We couldn’t be any happier with how it’s gone”.
A lot was asked of the ‘keeper. His last club was West Ham, where he only made cup appearances in his last season with the Hammers – “There are high expectations but he has dealt with them really well.”
Achterberg spoke of the work he had to do: “He needed to adapt to the way we play, with wanting him to play out”. However, this is something that Adrian didn’t shy away from: “He’s done [well] and picked everything up” according to the goalkeeping coach.
One reason Liverpool have performed so well in recent seasons has been the unity in the dressing room. Thankfully for Jürgen Klopp, Adrian has had no trouble adapting – “He’s a really good guy…he fits in really well with the group” said Achterberg.
