With Nathaniel Clyne’s contract set to run out in 2020, Liverpool are about to lose one of their right-backs.

The 28-year-old was a key asset to Liverpool’s defence in the 2016/17 season. However, the defender has made significantly less appearances since then due his loan and Klopp preferring Trent Alexander-Arnold.

If the Reds are not looking to extend his contract, we may need to look for a replacement.

Here we take a look at what options could be available:

  1. Joe Gomez

Our very own Joe Gomez could slot into the number 2 role. Although he is classed as a centre-back, Gomez has made 52 appearances in the role. He shows signs of Trent’s creativity with his  three assists. However, he can be seen as unreliable with several injuries he has suffered.

  2. Joshua Kimmich

The 24 year-old would be an great investment to Liverpool if chosen. He had a great form last season, providing 16 assists and 2 goals for Bayern Munich. He seems to be a match for Trent, as he has already produced 3 assists this season.

The only hesitation would be the hefty price tag he comes with as he is valued at £63 million. But he might be worth the investment in the long-run if we are trying to win the Champions League and the Premier League.

3. Jordan Teze

The 19 year-old currently plays for PSV U21’s and is one to watch in the future. He has begun to make his mark in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie, scoring three goals and accruing six assists. There may be some hesitation to sign because of his age, but he is valued at 180k.

Given his innate talent, he may be worth another look in a year.

Who do you think would be a suitable right-back?
