Jurgen Klopp should look to rest Jordan Henderson when Liverpool host Huddersfield Town on Friday.
The captain has quickly developed into a vital player for the Reds. After years of doubts over his quality in a deep midfield role, Henderson’s move forward has been inspired.
His arrival inspired the resurgence against Southampton, it was he who split FC Porto open at Anfield, as well as finally breaking down Chelsea.
Henderson’s move has also coincided with Salah’s return to form. Having previously been on a nine-game barren run, Salah has scored three and assisted another since.
And the captain has become such an important player that Klopp must strongly consider resting him this Friday.
Henderson rarely plays three times in a week. His fitness record doesn’t allow the club to take that chance but Liverpool face a very intense few weeks.
Right now is the only midweek they have off until the final Premier League game of the season. After Huddersfield comes Barcelona, then a trip to Newcastle, then Barca once more, before Wolves at home.
Huddersfield at Anfield is undeniably the most straightforward game of the lot. No, things shouldn’t be taken for granted, but with so many huge games coming up, now is the chance to give Henderson the rest he needs.
Honestly, Klopp should probably rest more players ahead of Barca – but you could understand his hesitancy to do that.
Henderson, with his fitness record, should rest against Huddersfield, though. He’ll almost certainly be needed at his best in the coming weeks.
