The Liverpool midfield is stepping up at the perfect time as the Reds push towards a successful season.
Liverpool’s front-three have been the stars for two seasons now. And rightly so – their scoring record is fantastic.
There have been plenty of times where Liverpool have leant on them a bit too much, however. A deep, well-organised defence can stifle all three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, and Mo Salah.

It was that way last season as Liverpool faltered in the league every now and then and we’ve seen it this season, too.
Not in the last few games, though. The midfield has won Liverpool’s last three league games – and that could win them the title.
That’s been the big criticism of Liverpool. The front three can win games but the midfield is mainly grafters who outrun the opposition and merely create a platform for the forwards.

Things changed at Southampton. Liverpool needed a goal but more than that, they needed energy and momentum. On came Jordan Henderson who transformed the side. Mo Salah scored on a break started from Henderson before the captain added another of his own.
That game also saw the first goal from Naby Keita, who would add his second in midweek against FC Porto. Henderson would unlock the defence later on, getting Trent Alexander-Arnold in behind to lay one on for Firmino.
Then came Chelsea. Liverpool were level at the break but Henderson, yet again, found space in the box to create a goal for Mane and set the team on their way.

The same situation happened in Cardiff, too, as Liverpool went into the break at 0-0. This time it was Gini Wijnaldum who stepped up to score just his second Premier League away goal. James Milner, too, added a late penalty.
Klopp’s Liverpool midfield isn’t known for their attacking contributions but they’re certainly stepping up at the right time. It could just dive the side to glory.
