Trent Alexander-Arnold is out with an ankle injury and will miss around a month of football but Liverpool will have Joe Gomez back in action next week.

The Reds beat Brighton 1-0 in what was another gritty win and the three points were not without sacrifice as Trent Alexander-Arnold played through pain.

The young fullback pulled up during the warmup and there were fears that he would be unable to start the game. However, after playing through the issue, it seems as though he aggravated the problem and will miss around a month of football.

With Nathaniel Clyne out on loan, Jurgen Klopp’s defensive ranks are looking worryingly thin once again but with a number of players soon to return and a warm weather training camp coming up, things aren’t all bad for the Reds.

Dave Maddock says that Klopp is not worried about Trent’s injury as he is only likely to miss three games (Palace, Leicester, West Ham) and should be back in time for Liverpool’s Champions League doubleheader against Bayern Munich in February.

A massive boost for the Reds, however, is that Joe Gomez is set to return to training next week which will mean that Klopp can play the young defender at right back and Joel Matip at centre half after the Cameroonian returned to training last week and was on the bench at the Amex.

With the tricky Wilfried Zaha visiting Anfield this weekend with Crystal Palace, Fabinho can also deputise at right back while James Milner is more than capable as a fullback. In short, Klopp has options and will not feel like the world is ending.
