Reports from France claim that Liverpool have opened talks with PSG about the chance to sign Adrien Rabiot this month as his contract expires in the summer.
During December, claims were made that Barcelona had all but wrapped up a deal to sign Rabiot in the summer but since, it has emerged that PSG are refusing to allow the player to dictate his future and are looking to sell him in January.
The Ligue 1 club wants to receive compensation for Rabiot’s departure, regardless if it’s not a meaningful amount. The Frenchman has apparently been ‘banned’ from the PSG dressing room on matchdays, suggesting he really is on the outside looking in.
Liverpool have long since been linked with Rabiot, who has in the past admitted he loves Anfield.
French news outlet L’Equipe, English translation via Sky Sports, claims that Liverpool have held “a series of meetings” about Rabiot joining the Reds this month as his contract reaches its expiry date in six months’ time.
Liverpool’s midfield has been superb this season and even though the overall quality in the middle of the park isn’t quite on the same level as Manchester City’s engine room, the cohesive quality with which it operates has been key to success this season.
While I think it’s unlikely that Rabiot will join the club this month, if Klopp wants him and he is available to leave then I imagine Liverpool have as good a chance to sign him as anyone.
