Jordan Henderson has revealed why he feels the Reds’ pre-season tour of Hong Kong for the PL Asia Trophy was good for the squad.
Two games, four goals scored, two wins, one trophy.
That’s the simple sum of Liverpool’s pre-season PL Asia Trophy ‘campaign’ and for us fans, it’s a positive one whatever way you want to look at it.
For the players, it’s the result of some seriously gruelling work. The Reds had to train in hot and humid conditions, making changes to accomodate torrential rain on the first day and navigating a pitch that looked as if it had been attacked with a pitch fork rather than football boots.
Henderson however, feels all of these struggles were completely worth it.
“It’s difficult conditions, very humid, but it’s good for us because it’s pre-season and we’ve got to get fit,” the skipper told Liverpoolfc.com.
“We’ll benefit from that when we go back home. It’ll give us that bit of confidence with how hard we’ve worked here in these conditions. We go back home happy, but (there’s) still a lot of hard work to do.”
Henderson was happy that the Reds were able to defeat Palace and Leicester fairly comfortably and believes their PL Asia Trophy success puts them in good stead for the season to come.
“It’s a good start to pre-season; tough games against two good teams, two difficult teams to play against,” he added.
“Overall, we’re pleased with the performances. Of course, there’s still things we need to improve on over the next few weeks, but we go home happy with what we’ve done here.”
“I thought the lads were brilliant in the first half, very attacking. (We scored) two great goals through Mo and Phil,” he continued.
“We’ve got a big squad, a lot of good players, so it’s difficult for the manager to choose a first XI.”
Liverpool’s next pre-season challenge will be found in Germany as the Reds will travel to Jürgen Klopp’s homeland for the Audi Cup.
