Jordan Henderson was ecstatic to get back on the pitch against Tranmere as he completed his return from a foot injury suffered in February.
It was honestly fantastic to see Liverpool’s skipper back on the pitch, wasn’t it?
Henderson has been missing since late February when he sustained what was initially described as a ‘bruised foot’ in training that seemingly escalated very, very quickly.
The Englishman has not featured for the Reds in a competitive match for five months but now, after returning to action against Tranmere, he’s determined to make the most of this season.
When asked about how he felt on his return to action the skipper responded: “Yeah very nice. Nice to be back on the pitch, playing in front of the crowd with the kit on. So yeah been looking forward to this all summer really. It’s good to finally get back on the pitch and play with the lads.”
“Pre-season is very important to all the lads coming back in from their holidays. We’ve started really well in training and the games – we’ve got another one Friday – they’re coming fast but we’re ready for it. It’s a good start for us.”
“Yeah he’s tried to yeah! I think that’s the aim, you give it everything for 45 minutes and give everyone a run out to try and get fit and get minutes on the pitch. Show the manager what they’re capable of so yeah, everyone enjoyed it and looking forward to the next game on Friday.”
Finally, the skipper was asked if the fact he missed so much of last season has him fired up to ensure that he and his fellow senior players remind the squad to make everything count as much as possible.
“Yeah I think it’s not only my role but a lot of the other senior lads will be driving the team forwards with what we expect in every training session and every game but we’ve got a good set of lads who want to work hard and I’m sure we’ll work very hard over the next few weeks to be ready for the first game of the season.”
