Liverpool missed out on landing one of the most promising stars in Europe recently as Maxime Lopez reveals he rejected the chance to move to Merseyside.
The Reds were desperately looking for young talent that can slowly walk into the squad and Jürgen Klopp was looking into some of the most exciting players in Europe before the start of the season.
They were linked to a number of stars that they were not able to land recently and one player who has now opened about his decision to reject the English club is Marseille starlet Maxime Lopez.
The 19-year old French U20 midfielder was linked with a move to Anfield not too long ago but all interests have cooled off after the French outfit were adamant not to sell to Liverpool in the summer.
But the player has yesterday revealed that he was offered a huge role at Anfield and that he was not yet ready to accept it.
Speaking to French news outfit L’Equipe, Lopez revealed that Liverpool approached him for a move to the Anfield a couple of seasons ago and that he was offered the role of Philippe Coutinho in the future.
He also revealed that he met Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard when he attended a game at Liverpool but went on to reveal that his heart was with Marseille.
He told L’Equipe, “They approached me in a good way. I even met Steven Gerrard at the stadium after a game.
“They said to me: ‘In five years you get Coutinho’s place. I wanted to go there, but also to stay at Marseille. To go like that, at this age and even with your family, is very hard.
“I had noticed that they had 30 young professional players, not to mention the youth players. You really have to be mentally prepared,’ he added.
The teenager signed a long term deal just last month that will keep him at the club till 2021 leaving Liverpool with little chance of landing him anytime soon.
Do you think Maxime Lopez would have been a good option for Liverpool?
