Liverpool are going to be delving into the winter transfer market and this could open up a move for Bundesliga duo Christian Pulisic and Mahmoud Dahoud.

With Danny Ings injured for the foreseeable future and Sadio Mane heading off to the African Cup of Nations in January, Liverpool will be shorthanded in their challenge for the title and Jurgen Klopp has said that the Reds might need to sign a player or two to sustain their bid for a first-ever Premier League title.

“We watch the market all the time and of course we need to be prepared for different situations and one of them is injuries,” Klopp said, according to the Liverpool Echo.

“The Africa Cup of Nations we already knew about so we don’t need to be influenced or surprised by that, but it could be a moment when we approach the market.

“It’s not about how many strikers. Three strikers is enough, I think. But when Sadio is away we will be without a winger. We do not have many wingers, I would say.

“Roberto Firmino could play as a kind of a winger which would then just give us two strikers. It is a long way to go from January onwards and that month of January is busy.

“If we can go to the semi-final of the League Cup it could be the busiest month of the whole year. We need to be prepared for this for sure.”

It’s clear that Klopp is aware that with Ings and Mane absent there will be gaps in his squad and we can be certain that a bid will be made for a forward. It’s highly likely that a move will be made for a winger that can play up-front, much like Mane. The Mirror believe that a bid could be on for Borussia Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic who has been a target of Liverpool’s before.

A deal that, going by Klopp’s comments, doesn’t seem to be an immediate priority but would still be an astute signing is Borussia Monchengladbach’s Mahmoud Dahoud. The midfielder is a massive prospect and with his contract running out, Gladbach might be open to offers.

The Liverpool Echo even reported in September that Liverpool would revisit their interest in Pulisic and Dahoud and the January window may offer a prime opportunity to sign two players who have highly exciting futures ahead of them. Under Jurgen Klopp, there is no doubting that either will thrive and fulfill their respective potentials.

A move for Pulisic is far liklier, it must be said, as buying a winger is a priority but should the Reds sign Dahoud it would send a message of intent as far as their title challenge is concerned.
