Scouting team
The first thing you have to look at is the scouting team. Michael Owen moment coming up here, but their job is to find players that possess the attributes to fit into Klopp’s way of playing. They are obviously finding players to fit in with our gaffer’s philosophy, but maybe we are right to question their talent?
Some of the lads that were signed when Rodgers was in charge, such as Lallana, Firmino, and Lovren, have got themselves in line since the arrival of Klopp. But look at the summer outgoings, there were a lot of poor or average players. Balotelli, Benteke and Allen are the stand out players that lead the summer exodus. But the likes of Luis Alberto, Samed Yesil, Kolo Toure, Teixeira, Bogdan and Markovic have all been sold, released or left to go on loan.
I admit that Markovic has the potential to be a top player and Benteke is a goal machine when utilised correctly, but let’s face it, 75% of the signings in recent years never have and never will be good enough to even say they’ve had the chance to play for a team like Liverpool.
What top talent have we really been seriously linked with or even scouted? Of recent times it’s been players that have either been relegated from the Premier League, stand out players from mid-table teams or young players from bigger teams abroad. It needs to change, sharpish.
