Five exciting players Liverpool could sign at right-back as mystery transfer confirmed as ‘likely’

Despite frustration from supporters about a lack of movement in the market, Liverpool are reportedly still set to sign a new right-back this summer.

As the Guardian note on Saturday, the Reds are ‘likely’ to be forced into making a new addition given the length of time Conor Bradley is taking to recover from the knee injury which has kept him out of action since January.

It is claimed that while Andoni Iraola sees Bradley as Liverpool‘s first-choice right-back ‘in an ideal world,’ the reality of the Northern Irishman’s fitness status means a piece of incoming business is likely to happen. But with links virtually at zero, who could be the Reds’ mystery full-back signing? Rousing The Kop have scoured Europe to dig out five young players who might be worth keeping an eye on.

Ivan Fresneda, Sporting

Liverpool have been looking for a right-back in the recent past, and having been linked with some quality players, they may see the decision to ultimately decide on Jeremie Frimpong as being a mistake.

One of those to be linked in the years prior to the Dutchman’s arrival was Ivan Fresneda, who had half of Europe trying to sign him when he left Real Valladolid in 2024.

The Spaniard ended up with Sporting in Portugal, where he has overcome some injury issues to show plenty of promise. Still only 21, Fresneda helped Sporting win the league in 2025 and though he failed to register an assist and scored only once in 39 appearances last season, he has big potential and would not necessarily derail Bradley’s development either.

Kyriani Sabbe, Club Brugge

If Liverpool buy from the Portuguese league, they know they may have to afford a player a period of adjustment, particularly if they are on the younger side.

The same would be true of an arrival from the Belgian top division, but the Reds could do much worse than looking at Club Brugge’s Kyriani Sabbe.

Like Fresneda, Sabbe is 21, but the Belgian has already made over 100 appearances for Brugge, scoring three goals and registering four assists last season.

An attacking full-back with pace to burn, Sabbe would be an exciting arrival who looks to be headed for a regular spot in the Belgium national team.

Josh Acheampong, Chelsea

Part of the remit for any new full-back arriving at Liverpool this summer may be that they can play at centre-back as well, and though this would not be true of Fresneda or Sabbe, Chelsea’s Josh Acheampong would fit the bill.

There are some concerns from Chelsea’s end that Acheampong could look to leave this summer unless there’s a guarantee of first-team football under Xabi Alonso, and with Liverpool also a little short on the homegrown front, the 20-year-old would make a lot of sense.

Acheampong is more of a centre-back than a right-back, as he displayed expertly during Chelsea’s win over Liverpool last October.

However, while he could add plenty to the central ranks – which do need bolstering – the England U21 international would get plenty of game time while Bradley returns to fitness, adding Premier League experience to the Liverpool squad.

Jon Aramburu, Real Sociedad

While Fresneda, Sabbe and Acheampong would all represent a bet on potential by Liverpool, they could also look to bring in a more seasoned player as well.

That could be where Real Sociedad’s Jon Aramburu comes into the picture, and the 24-year-old offers a more traditional option at right-back.

A regular starter for La Real, Aramburu has 81 appearances in La Liga under his belt already, and is a full Venezuela international with 22 caps.

Martim Fernandes, Porto

Another of Portugal’s most promising young right-backs is Martim Fernandes, who continued his development by playing 20 times for Porto as they won the league last season.

Another very traditional right-back, Fernandes could ably play back-up to Bradley, or even take over the position in the years to come.

Only 20, he has already played 76 times for Porto and has also filled in at left-back for the Dragons.

All of these options would add something a little different for Liverpool, and as they assess where deals can be possible in the right-back market, any would be an exciting addition to battle it out with Bradley for this season and beyond.
