A consortium of investors trying to secure part of Liverpool wants Jeff Bezos to join their cause.
Bezos is obviously incredibly wealthy and already has a good relationship with Reds stakeholder LeBron James, which may well persuade him to look at buying into the Merseyside outfit.
Should he do so, this would be the second time that the Amazon founder and FSG’s John W Henry have been linked with a sports team, with the pair previously trying to buy the Washington Commanders.
How happy would you be if FSG sell Liverpool? 💰
Jeff Bezos and John Henry competed to buy the NFL team the Washington Commanders
Back in late 2022, it was suggested that FSG were going to sell Liverpool and put that money into the NFL team.
At the time, it was thought the Premier League side would fetch its owners between $4 billion and $5 billion, a couple of billion less than what the club is valued at in the present day.
But that sale, which would have seen Henry and co. take home around $3 billion, would have made up a good chunk of the $4 billion of equity needed to buy control of the Commanders.
However, FSG were not the only ones aiming to dip their toes into the NFL world.
A group of high-profile investors, formed by Jeff Bezos, Jay-Z and Matthew McConaughey, were also planning to launch competing bids at auction for the Commanders.
In the end, however, neither Bezos nor Henry won the race to purchase the NFL team.
Instead, Josh Harris’s group bought the team in 2023 for somewhere in the region of $6.05 billion.
It was a move that has seemingly paid off, as the Commanders are now estimated to have a rough value of $7.6 billion in 2026.
Bezos has also reportedly considered buying another NFL outfit, the Seattle Seahawks, in the past as well, but he again did not pull the trigger on that deal.
